MORAVIAN’S MEAGAN HENNESSY NAMED COMMONWEALTH
CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK

PA --- Senior pitcher Meagan Hennessy (Freehold, NJ/Freehold
Township HS) of the Moravian College softball team has
been named the Commonwealth Conference Pitcher of the Week for the
fifth time this season for her performance last week.
Hennessy had a hand in all six Moravian decisions’
last week, going 5-0 with a save, four shutouts, a no-hitter, a
one-hitter and two two-hitters. Hennessy opened
the week with her second no-hitter of the season and the sixth of
her career, blanking Elizabethtown College, 9-0 in five innings.
She did allow three walks while striking out five batters. In the
second game, Hennessy came on with one out and
two runners on in the sixth inning and preserved the shutout, allowing
just a hit while striking out three batters for her fifth save of
the season.
Hennessy then tossed a one-hitter with one walk
and six strikeouts in a 2-0 shutout of Albright College. Hennessy
also won the second game, allowing her only run of the week on five
hits and two walks while striking out nine. In her final doubleheader
at Blue & Grey Field, Hennessy tossed a pair
of two-hit, 2-0 shutouts against Messiah College. Hennessy
did not allow a walk in the first game while striking out nine batters,
and she had two walks and eight strikeouts in the second game.
Hennessy, who is 19-4 on the season, was used
in the flex position to run for designated player Richelle
McWilliams (Riegelsville, PA/Easton HS) and scored four
runs last week. She was also flawless in the field with three putouts
and seven assists. Hennessy continues to climb
up the NCAA Division III record books. She is now tied for second
in career shutouts with 50, tied for eighth in career victories
with 86, seventh in career strikeouts 818, tied for ninth in career
ERA at 0.86, ninth in innings pitched with 755.0 and tied for 11th
in complete games with 96.
Moravian is scheduled to return to action as the top seed in the
2006 Commonwealth Conference Tournament at Susquehanna University
beginning on Friday, May 5th. The Greyhounds will take on fourth
seed and host Susquehanna in the first game of the tournament at
11:00 a.m.
