MORAVIAN WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM FALLS TO 20TH IN D3HOOPS.COM FIFTH REGULAR SEASON TOP 25 POLL

STERLING, VA --- The Moravian College women’s basketball team, which is off to an 8-1 start, fell two spots to 20th in the D3hoops.com fifth regular season Top 25 Poll announced Tuesday. The complete poll can be viewed at http://www.d3hoops.com/top25/.

The Greyhounds, under the direction of 19-year head coach Mary Beth Spirk, were ranked 19th in the preseason poll, 15th in the first regular season poll, 12th in the second poll before being ranked 18th the last two weeks. Moravian has won eight of its first nine games of the year by an average of 15.0 points, and the team has begun its 2005-06 Commonwealth Conference season with a pair of victories.

The University of Southern Maine retained the top spot in the nation with six first-place votes and 579 points. Brandeis University is second with 573 points and five first-place votes and just 38 points separate the top five teams in the poll with third ranked Washington University in St. Louis receiving the most first place votes with nine.

Moravian dropped a 67-62 decision to sixth-ranked the University of Scranton on Wednesday, December 7th in Johnston Hall. The Greyhounds will play 14th-ranked Messiah College, which did receive on first place vote, twice during the Commonwealth Conference season, in Johnston Hall on January 25th and in Grantham on February 11th. Both games are slated to begin at 6:00 p.m.

Moravian will return to action in a non-conference game versus Wilkes University on Wednesday, January 4th in Johnston Hall at 7:00 p.m.
