MORAVIAN COLLEGE BASKETBALL TEAMS TO JOIN IN
“COACHES VS. CANCER” FIGHT
BETHLEHEM, PA --- The Moravian College men’s and women’s basketball teams
will be hosting their 13th annual “Coaches versus Cancer Day” on Wednesday
January 25, 2006 in a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader with Messiah College beginning
at 6:00 p.m. with the women’s game
The “Coaches versus Cancer” program increases awareness, while raising funds
for the American Cancer Society’s research, education, and patient services. This
year, the basketball teams are doing this fundraiser in conjunction with the “pink
out”. Moravian’s Student-Athlete Mentors (S.A.M.) and Student-Athlete Advisory
Committee (S.A.A.C.) members are selling pink t-shirts in honor of Sara Weller ’06,
to be worn on the day of the game. Weller lost a 19 month battle with sarcoma, a rare form
of cancer. Weller was in her senior year at Moravian and was very active in our campus
community. She was an English major, member of Sigma Tau Delta, the Zizendorf Society and
a member of the Women's Tennis Team.
All proceeds from pledges, raffles, and concessions will be donated to the Susan G. Komen
Breast Cancer Foundation. Moravian is asking that faculty, staff, students and fans join
us in this fight.
Moravian will also be accepting pledges for each assist the Greyhound teams make in the
doubleheader. (Currently, the men’s team is averaging 13.6 assists and the women
are averaging 14.0, so a pledge of $1 would be a $28 donation for the evening.) There will
also be raffle tickets available for gift certificates to local restaurants.
Pledge sign up sheets will be available near the entrances of the gym. If you can not
attend the game, but wish to make a pledge, please email assistant women’s basketball
coach Amy Endler at fieldhockey@moravian.edu and
your name will be added to the pledge sheet.
