MORAVIAN’S KELLY APPLEGATE NAMED COMMONWEALTH CONFERENCE
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ANNVILLE, PA --- Junior forward Kelly Applegate (Easton, PA/Wilson HS) of
the Moravian College women’s basketball team has been named the Commonwealth Conference
Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for her performance last week.
Applegate, who was also named the Commonwealth Conference Player of
the Week on November 28th, December 12th and January 30th, helped the Greyhounds to a 2-0
week in Commonwealth Conference action. Applegate averaged 27.0 points
and 5.0 rebounds per game. Applegate began the week with 31 points, six
rebounds, three steals and four blocked shots in 30 minutes of action in a 68-64 victory
over Widener University which clinched the second seed in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament.
This was Applegate’s fourth 30-plus point game of the season and
second against Widener.
Applegate then became the 17th player in Moravian history to score at
least 1,000 points in a career with 23 points in a 90-74 win over Elizabethtown College. Applegate added
five rebounds and two blocked shots in 25 minutes of action. For the week, Applegate connected
on 19 of 32 field goal attempts (59.4 percent), two of two three-pointers and 14 of 16
free throws (87.5 percent).
Moravian, which is 20-5 overall and 11-3 in Commonwealth Conference action this season,
will return to action in a Commonwealth Conference Semifinal game versus Widener University
on Wednesday, February 22nd at 7:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
