SEVEN GREYHOUNDS NAMED TO NFHCA DIVISION III NATIONAL ACADEMIC
SQUAD; MORAVIAN EARNS NATIONAL ACADEMIC TEAM AWARD
GLEN ALLEN, VA --- Seven members of the Moravian College field hockey team have been
named to the 2005 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic
Squad announced Monday by the NFHCA.
Moravian was also one of 78 NCAA Division III schools to earn the honor of being named
an NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award winner for having a team GPA of 3.0
or higher. The Greyhounds were joined on the list by Commonwealth Conference rivals Elizabethtown
College, Juniata College, Messiah College and Susquehanna University, and local rival Muhlenberg
College.
Senior Jill Brinckman (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen HS), junior Elyse
Jurgen (York, PA/Red Lion HS) and sophomores Jayme Baker (Center Valley,
PA/Southern Lehigh HS), Beverly Beaver (Merchantville, NJ/Pennsauken
HS), Taranae Hashemi (Randolph, NJ/Randolph HS), and Erica
Spatz (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken HS), and freshman Alicia Abbuhl (Orange
Village, OH/Orange HS) represented the Greyhounds on the squad which included
over 815 NCAA Division III players from 105 teams. To be named to the NFHCA National
Academic Squad, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 grade-point average through
the first semester of the 2005-06 academic year.
The group helped the Greyhounds post a 5-13 record including a 0-7 mark in the Commonwealth
Conference. Baker contributed six goals and two assists for 14 points while Jurgen added
two goals and two assists for six points. Spatz had one goal and two assists for four points.
Brinckman started 17 matches for the Greyhounds on defense with two defensive saves while
Hashemi also started 17 matches and had one defensive save.
