SEVEN GREYHOUNDS NAMED TO NFHCA DIVISION
III NATIONAL ACADEMIC SQUAD;
MORAVIAN EARNS NATIONAL ACADEMIC TEAM AWARD
GLEN ALLEN, VA --- Seven members of the Moravian College field
hockey team have been named to the 2006 National Field Hockey Coaches
Association Division III National Academic Squad announced Tuesday
by the NFHCA.
Moravian was also one of 86 NCAA Division III schools to earn
the honor of being named an NFHCA Division III National Academic
Team Award winner for having a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Greyhounds
were joined on the list by Commonwealth Conference rivals Albright
College, Elizabethtown College, Juniata College, Messiah College
and Susquehanna University, and local rival Muhlenberg College.
Juniors Jayme Baker (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh
HS), Beverly Beaver (Merchantville, NJ/Pennsauken
HS), Erica Spatz (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken)
and Jamie Hirner (North Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua HS),
sophomores Julia Garofalo (Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Township HS)
and Lindsey Santacross (Bennington, VT/Mount Anthony HS)
and freshman Samantha Bell (Sparta, NJ/Pope John XXIII HS)
represented the Greyhounds on the squad which included
over 900 NCAA Division III players from 115 teams. To be named to
the NFHCA National Academic Squad, a student-athlete must maintain
at least a 3.30 grade-point average through the first semester of
the 2006-07 academic year.
The group helped the Greyhounds post a 4-15 record including a
1-6 mark in the Commonwealth Conference. Baker
and Garofalo each had a goal and an assist while
Bell had one assist. Beaver led
Moravian with five defensive saves this past season.
