MORAVIAN'S MARIA DeBONIS NAMED COMMONWEALTH
CONFERENCE SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
FOR THE SECOND STRAIGHT WEEK
ANNVILLE,
PA --- Sophomore pitcher Maria DeBonis (Nazareth, PA/Notre
Dame HS) of the Moravian College softball team has been
named the Commonwealth Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for
the second straight week, for her performance last week.
DeBonis, who was also the Commonwealth Conference
Pitcher of the Week on March 26th, had a 3-0 record last week to
help seventh-ranked Moravian to a 4-0 record, all by shutout. The
Greyhounds have won a school record seven straight games by shutout
and have not allowed a run in 45 innings since losing to DeSales
University, 12-11 in ten innings on April 3rd.
DeBonis improved to 8-2 with her sixth shutout
of the season in a 6-0 shutout of Widener University, allowing just
two hits and six walks while striking out ten batters. DeBonis
also connected on her first career home run at the plate during
the game. DeBonis tossed her second shutout of
the doubleheader against Widener and seventh of the season in a
7-0 win, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out eight
batters. DeBonis extended her own scoreless streak
to 31 innings in the shutout of Albright, her eighth shutout of
the year. DeBonis allowed just two hits and three
walks while striking out a career high 13 batters to improve to
10-2 in the circle this spring.
At the plate, DeBonis, who is Moravian’s
designated player when not pitching, had a .455 batting average
with five hits in 11 at-bats. DeBonis also had
a double, a home run, two RBIs and three runs. She also made four
assists in four chances in the field.
Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Thursday, April 19th
in a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Lebanon Valley College
beginning at 3:00 p.m. in Annville.
