MORAVIAN’S IAN BOX & NEIL CANIGA
NAMED TO COMMONWEALTH ALL-CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM;
Box Honored as Commonwealth Rookie of the Year
ANNVILLE,
PA --- Freshman Ian Box (Charlestown, MA/The Rivers School)
and senior Neil Caniga (Hampton, NJ/Voorhees HS)
of the Moravian College men’s tennis team have been named
to the Commonwealth All-Conference First Team announced Thursday
by the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation, and
Box was named the Commonwealth Conference Rookie
of the Year.
Box, pictured at right, has
posted an 11-4 singles mark including a 9-4 dual match record while
playing in the top singles spot in his first year with the Greyhounds.
Box and Caniga have combined for
an 11-2 mark at first doubles this season as well.
Caniga,
who made the Commonwealth All-Conference Team for the fourth straight
year, has posted a 12-1 singles record this season at second singles.
Caniga, pictured at left, is third all-time in
singles victories in his career with a 43-24 mark, and he is second
all-time in doubles wins with a career mark of 33-28. Caniga
also has a 19-7 record in Commonwealth Conference singles matches
and a 13-12 slate in conference doubles contests.
Moravian is 8-5 overall and posted a 3-3 record in Commonwealth
Conference action to clinch the fourth seed in the Commonwealth
Conference Team Tournament, the Greyhounds’ first playoff
berth since the 2002 season. Moravian will play top seed and tournament
host Messiah College on Saturday, April 21st at 2:00 p.m.
