MORAVIAN'S BETH PALY & KRISTIE PELLICANI
NAMED COMMONWEALTH CONFERENCE
SOFTBALL PLAYER & PITCHER OF THE WEEK
ANNVILLE,
PA --- Junior second baseman/shortstop Beth Paly (Whitehall,
PA/Whitehall HS) and sophomore pitcher Kristie
Pellicani (Sparta, NJ/Sparta HS) of the Moravian College
softball team has been named the Commonwealth Conference Softball
Player and Pitcher of the Week for their performances last week.
The duo helped tenth-ranked Moravian to a 3-0 record last week
as the Greyhounds won their seventh consecutive Commonwealth Conference
Tournament Championship. Moravian is now 32-5 on the season.
In Moravian’s opening game of the tournament, Paly,
pictured at right, gave the Greyhounds a 3-1 lead in the fifth inning
of a 3-2 victory over fourth seeded Messiah College with a two-run
home run to left field. The homer was Paly’s
fifth of the season and third against the Falcons. Paly
then went two-for-three in the Greyhounds’ 2-0 victory over
Elizabethtown College in a winner’s bracket game to advance
to the championship game. Paly was held hitless
by Messiah in a 5-0 victory in the title contest as the Falcons
pitched around her and walked her once. Paly, who
played at shortstop of the tournament, had five putouts and three
assists while anchoring the Greyhounds in the middle infield.
Pellicani,
who was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, tossed
a one-hit, 2-0 shutout of Elizabethtown. She walked five and struck
out six in her sixth shutout of the season. Pellicani,
pictured at left, then tossed a four-hit, 5-0 shutout of Messiah
in the championship game with one walk and five strikeouts. Pellicani
also had two assists in the circle in each game as Moravian committed
just one error in 21 innings in the tournament. Pellicani
is 16-3 overall with seven shutouts this spring.
Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Thursday, May 10th
at the 2007 NCAA Division III Regional at Montclair State University.
The top seeded Greyhounds will play the winner of the fourth seed
Ramapo College of New Jersey and fifth seed Gettysburg College at
