SIX MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES TO COMPETE AT NCAA DIVISION III OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

OSHKOSH, WI --- Moravian College has qualified six student-athletes, five females and one male, to compete at the 2007 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in Oshkosh, Wisconsin from Thursday, May 24th through Saturday, May 26th.

Senior Erin Recker (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua HS) is making her second trip to the NCAA Division III National Championships and will compete in two events. Recker, who is tied for the 12th best qualifying time in the 100-meter dash in a Moravian record time of 12.17 seconds, will run in the event’s third heat of the preliminary race on Friday evening at 6:05 p.m. central time while trying to make the final that will be run on Saturday afternoon at 2:40 p.m. central time.

Recker, pictured at right, will also compete in the 4x100-meter relay with fellow senior Amy Reehil (Roselle, NJ/Roselle Catholic HS) and freshmen Rachel Beck (Churchville, PA/Council Rock South HS) and Dana Haslett (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge HS). The quartet has the seventh fastest qualifying time, which is a Moravian record of 47.59, and will run in the third preliminary heat on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. central time. The three preliminary heat winners and the next six fastest times will advance to Saturday afternoon’s final at 1:10 p.m. central time.

Freshman Anna Heim (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown HS) will compete in the women’s pole vault at the National Championships for the second time this season after participating in the NCAA indoor meet back in March. Heim, pictured at left, has the tenth best qualifying height at 3.66 meters (12 feet), which is a Moravian record. She is scheduled to compete in the 19th and final spot in the pole vault flight on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. central time.

Junior Ozzie Brown (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh HS) will be participating in the men’s decathlon on the first two days of the NCAA Championships. Brown, who will competing in the event for just the second time in his career, qualified second with a school record point total of 6,797. Brown, pictured at right, will begin the first day of competition on Thursday at 12:00 p.m. central time with the 100-meter dash, and the day will also include the long jump, shot put, high jump and 400-meter dash with 30 minutes between each event. On Friday, Brown will start the day with the 110-meter high hurdles at 1:00 p.m. central time then compete in the discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500-meter run. Brown was qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships in three other events, the 200-meter dash, the long jump and the 110-meter high hurdles, but schedule conflicts at the meet are limiting him to the decathlon.
