36 GREYHOUNDS NAMED TO MIDDLE ATLANTIC STATES COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CORPORATION
SPRING ACADEMIC HONOR ROLL

ANNVILLE, PA --- The Moravian College spring athletic teams had 36 members named to the 2007 Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation Spring Academic Honor Roll announced Monday with at least one member from each of the eight spring sports.

The Honor Roll, which has a total of 506 student-athletes on it, comprises those student-athletes of sophomore class standing or higher who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 (4.00 scale) or higher and completed the playing season in good standing.

The women’s track and field team had seven honorees and the men’s team had eight members, the softball team had seven honorees, both the women’s and men’s lacrosse team had four honorees, the golf team had three honorees, the baseball team had two members and the men’s tennis team had one member of its team on the MASCAC Spring Academic Honor Roll.

Leading the selections for the women’s track team, were seniors Erin Recker (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua HS) and Amy Reehil (Roselle, NJ/Roselle Catholic HS). Recker won the 100-meter dash in a school record and NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 12.17 seconds and the 200-meter dash in an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 25.13 seconds at the 2007 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships. Reehil came in first in the 400-meter dash in a time of 59.09 seconds at the 2007 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships. Recker and Reehil will compete at the 2007 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh from May 24th through May 26th.

Also named to the MASCAC Spring Academic Honor Roll were seniors Tammy Balliet (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall HS), Suzanne Tamlyn (Wappingers Falls, NY/Wallkill HS) and Jennifer Connolly (Weare, NH/Manchester West HS), and sophomores Naomie Kachel (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin HS), and Kelly Williams (Tafton, PA/Wallenpaupack Area HS).

Leading the men’s track and field team honorees were junior Nathaniel Tussey (Perkiomenville, PA/Boyertown Area HS) and senior Anthony Sarno (Forked River, NJ/Lacey Township HS). Tussey captured first in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 54.26 seconds at the 2007 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships, while Sarno placed 13th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the championships as well.

Also named to the MASCAC Spring Academic Honor Roll were juniors Alan Fatzinger (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua HS), Timothy Pagano (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West HS), and Vince Pagano (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin East HS), and sophomores John McCullough (Levittown, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic HS), Jared Henrie (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley HS) and Timothy Murphy (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS).

The softball team had an overall record of 35-7, earned a berth in the 2007 NCAA Division III World Series and had a Commonwealth Conference record of 13-1. Leading the greyhounds were senior outfielder Justina Black (Orefield, PA/Parkland HS), who contributed 16 hits and three RBIs, and senior first basemen/outfielder Rebecca DeJulio (Vineland, NJ/Sacred Heart HS), who had four hits and one RBI.

Junior infielder Beth Paly (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall HS) had a .336 batting average, 44 hits, five home runs, and 29 RBIs this season. Sophomore pitcher/outfielder Maria DeBonis (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame HS) was named to the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III All-American Second Team while contributing a 1.07 ERA, an 18-2 record, 11 shutouts, and 54 walks all in 137 innings pitched. DeBonis also had a .317 batting average, 33 hits, six doubles, four home runs, and 23 RBIs this season as well.

Also earning a spots on the MASCAC Spring Academic Honor Roll from the softball team are sophomores Katie Agnew (Doylestown, PA/Lansdale Catholic HS), Jordan Oplinger (Allentown, PA/Parkland HS) and Erica Klepeisz (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth HS). Agnew had 12 hits, four doubles, seven RBIs and six runs while Oplinger contributed 25 hits, 19 runs, two doubles and eight RBIs. Klepeisz led the Greyhounds with 49 hits, 33 runs and 13 doubles to go with ten RBIs, a triple and three home runs.

The women’s lacrosse team had an overall record of 2-13 and a Commonwealth Conference record of 1-9. Leading the team is senior midfielder Lindsey Lustrino (Spring Lake, NJ/Manasquan HS) with 51 goals, nine assts and 41 ground balls this season. Lustrino also holds the school records for the most goals in a season with 52, career goals with 164, and career assists with 20.

Senior defender Jenna Abramson (Bangor, PA/Bangor HS) has contributed 17 ground balls, eight draw controls, and seven caused turnovers. Junior midfielder Erica Spatz (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken HS) and junior attack Jessica Bodine (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown HS) are also on the team. Spatz has added 29 goals, three assists, and 39 ground balls while Bodine has one goal, ten ground balls, and two draw controls so far this season.

The men’s lacrosse team posted a record of 2-14 overall and a 2-8 Commonwealth Conference record. Leading the team is senior midfielder Ken Blom (Rochelle Park, NJ/Bergen Catholic HS) with 11 goals, six assists and 16 ground balls. Sophomore attack Christopher Danni (Macungie, PA/Emmaus HS) added four goals, one assist and four ground balls while sophomore defender Brian Reckenbeil (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville HS) had 22 ground balls this season. Junior defender Zak Goldstein (Wayne, PA/The Shipley School) contributed 14 ground balls.

The golf team had an overall record of 1-0 and finished second of seven in the Commonwealth Conference Championship. Leading the team is Brian Bergstol (Mt. Bethel, PA/Bangor HS), who was named the 2007 Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year after winning the Commonwealth Conference Tournament for a second straight year. Also earning spots on the MASCAC Spring Academic Honor Roll are seniors John Gilbert (Allentown, PA/Freedom HS) and Thad Miller (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus HS).

The baseball team had an overall record of 16-20 and a Commonwealth Conference record of 9-12. Earning spots on the team are sophomores Scott Hettinger (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson West Lawn HS) and Thomas Czarnecki (Columbia, NJ/North Warren HS). Hettinger had five hits, including one double to go along with four RBIs and one stolen base. Czarnecki contributed one hit and one RBI this season in limited action.

The men’s tennis team had an overall record of 9-6 and a Commonwealth Conference record of 3-3. Sophomore Keith Feinman (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield HS) contributed an overall singles record of 12-10 and Commonwealth record of 5-1. Feinman had an overall doubles record of 5-11 and an in-conference record of 2-4 with partner Jeremiah Reinhart and with partner Scott Shelbo, Feinman posted a record of 2-3.
