MORAVIAN’S MARIA DeBONIS AND ERICA KLEPEISZ EARN ECAC SOUTHERN ALL-STAR HONORS

CAPE COD, MA --- Sophomore pitcher Maria DeBonis (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame HS) and sophomore outfielder Erica Klepeisz (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth HS) of the Moravian College softball team have been named to the 2007 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Southern All-Star Team.

The duo helped the Greyhounds win the team’s seventh straight Commonwealth Conference Tournament title and eighth straight Commonwealth Conference Championship and garnered the program’s tenth consecutive NCAA Division III Tournament appearance by winning the 2007 Commonwealth Conference Tournament. Moravian was the regional champion at the Montclair State Regional to advance to the World Series for the second time in four years and completed the 2007 season with an overall record of 35-7, the fifth straight season with at least 30 wins. The Greyhounds have played in the regional championship game the last five years.

DeBonis, who was named to the 2007 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III All-American Second Team as well, was in her first year of action with Moravian after an injury on the volleyball court kept her off the softball field in 2006. DeBonis was also named to the 2007 Commonwealth All-Conference First Team, and she was named the Commonwealth Conference Pitcher of the Year and to the NFCA All-East Region First Team. DeBonis had a 1.07 ERA to go along with an 18-2 record, 19 complete games, 11 shutouts, 72 hits allowed, 54 walks and 175 strikeouts in 137 innings pitched. On the offensive end, DeBonis had a .317 batting average with 33 hits, 21 runs, six doubles, one triple, four homeruns, 10 walks, three stolen bases and 23 RBIs.

Klepeisz, pictured at left, was named to the 2007 Commonwealth All-Conference First Team for the second year in a row and the NFCA All-East Region Second Team. Klepeisz contributed a .389 batting average with 49 hits, 33 runs, 13 doubles, a triple, three homeruns, seven walks and 10 RBIs.
