MORAVIAN COLLEGE WOMEN’S TENNIS NAMED ITA ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM FOR SIXTH STRAIGHT YEAR;
SIX GREYHOUNDS NAMED ITA SCHOLAR-ATHLETES

SKILLMAN, NJ --- The 2006-07 Moravian College women’s tennis team, which won its final Commonwealth Conference title and made the program’s first-ever NCAA Division Tournament appearance, has been named a 2007 Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team for the sixth consecutive year.

Six of the Greyhounds’ individual players, seniors Courtney Hall (Denver, PA/Cocalico HS) and Margo Kokolus (Orefield, PA/Parkland HS), juniors Rebecca Angstadt (Hamburg, PA/Hamburg HS), Lindsey Hopper (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex HS) and Jennel Yelito (Tamaqua, PA/Tamaqua HS) and sophomore Dyana Swan (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville HS) earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors for maintaining at least a 3.50 GPA, earning a varsity letter and being enrolled for at least two semesters.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA/NAIA eligibility form and have competed in one or more matches are averaged into the cumulative grade point average for the current year (including fall 2006 and spring 2007).

A total of 276 men’s and women’s teams from NCAA schools earned the ITA All-Academic Award, while 22 men’s and women’s programs from NAIA schools and four junior colleges were honored with the largest number, 89 programs, coming from the NCAA Division I women’s programs.

Moravian was one of 57 NCAA Division III women’s teams to win the ITA All-Academic Team award, and the only school from the new Landmark Conference honored. Rival Muhlenberg College did earn the ITA All-Academic Team award.

Kokolus, who was named to the Commonwealth Conference Tennis All-Conference First Team, had a singles record of 9-8, including a 7-6 record at first singles. Kokolus entered doubles with Hall and completed a 6-10 overall record. Hall had a singles record of 1-5.

Angstadt had an overall record of 17-1 including a 13-1 record at sixth singles. Angstadt captured the 2006 Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation Sixth Singles Championship. Swan, who was also named to the Commonwealth Conference Tennis All-Conference First Team, completed an overall singles record of 10-7, including a 9-7 record at second singles. Swan was 10-2 in doubles action.

Yelito contributed an overall singles record of 14-6, including a 12-3 record at fifth singles. Hopper completed a 2-0 singles record this season, and teamed up with Hall for a 3-1 doubles record as well.

A total of 1,551 NCAA student-athletes earn the ITA Scholar-Athlete Award, while 121 NAIA student-athletes and 28 junior college student-athletes were honored with the largest number, 424 student-athletes, coming from the NCAA Division I women’s programs. Moravian’s six players were part of the second largest group honored, 337 student-athletes from NCAA Division III women’s programs. The complete list can be found at the ITA website.

Moravian begins its 2007-08 season on Thursday, September 6th with a non-conference match versus 2007 NCAA Division III Tournament participant Cabrini College at 4:00 p.m. at Hoffman Courts in Bethlehem.
