MORAVIAN WOMEN’S TENNIS SQUAD TO HOST GOUCHER COLLEGE IN LANDMARK CONFERENCE SEMIFINALS

BETHLEHEM, PA --- The Moravian College women’s tennis team has earned the top seed in the 2008 Landmark Conference Championship Tournament and will host fourth-seeded Goucher College in a semifinal match on Tuesday, April 22nd at Hoffman Courts beginning at 3:00 p.m.

The Greyhounds are 8-5 overall and posted an undefeated 6-0 in the inaugural Landmark Conference season while the Gophers are 11-7 overall and 3-3 in Landmark Conference action.  Tuesday’s other semifinal has third seeded The Catholic University of America traveling to second seed The University of Scranton at 3:30 p.m.  The semifinal winners will meet on Saturday, April 26th at the highest remaining seed to determine the first-ever Landmark Conference Champion.

Moravian head coach Dawn Ketterman-Benner has the Greyhounds in the postseason for the 14th straight season.  Ketterman-Benner, who has a career mark of 221-83, has led Moravian to the conference championship match in each of the last 13 years.

Senior Rebecca Angstadt (Hamburg, PA/Hamburg HS) leads the Greyhounds with a 15-4 singles mark and is 8-0 at sixth singles this year. Freshman Kerry McKinley (Sparta, NJ/Pope John XXIII HS) has a 14-5 singles mark including a 3-1 slate at sixth singles and a 6-1 mark at fifth singles while senior Brittany Popaca (Lavallette, NJ/Point Pleasant Beach HS) is 13-4 in singles action with a 2-0 mark at second singles and an 8-3 slate at third singles. 

Senior Lindsey Hopper (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex HS) has a 9-7 singles slate this season and is 4-4 at first singles while senior Jennel Yelito (Tamaqua, PA/Tamaqua HS) has an 11-5 singles mark this season with Yelito posting a 9-1 mark at fourth singles.  Freshman Elizabeth Endy (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin HS) has a 3-1 singles mark this season while junior Dyana Swan (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville HS) is 4-10.  Junior MaryKate Kelly (Beach Haven, NJ/Southern Regional HS) has won four of 12 singles contests this season.

In doubles action, Popaca and Yelito are 7-3 on the season including 5-1 at second doubles while Hopper and Swan have combined for a 6-4 doubles mark including 5-3 at first doubles.  Kelly and McKinley have a 4-3 record with a 4-2 slate at third doubles while McKinley and Endy have combined for a 2-1 mark.  The duo of McKinley and Hopper have a 3-4 mark while Kelly and Popaca have a 3-2 doubles record.
