MORAVIAN TRACK & FIELD TEAMS TO HOST 2008 LANDMARK CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS

BETHLEHEM, PA --- The Moravian College men’s and women’s track & field teams are set to host the inaugural Landmark Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Rocco Calvo Field and Timothy Breidegam Track in Bethlehem on Saturday and Sunday, April 26th and 27th.

Competition begins on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with the first half of the men’s decathlon and women’s heptathlon and running through the men’s 10,000-meter run, scheduled to begin at 6:55 p.m.  Sunday’s action is slated to start at 9:00 a.m. with the conclusion of the decathlon and heptathlon and completing with the awards ceremony at 4:00 p.m.  For complete information on 2008 Landmark Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, visit http://www.moravian.edu/athletics/track/LandmarkConference2008/index.htm.

The Greyhound teams are looking to duplicate their inaugural Landmark Conference Indoor titles won back in February.  The Moravian women also won the 2008 ECAC Division III Indoor Championship while the Greyhound men were the runner-up at the ECAC Indoor meet.

The Greyhound men have several highly-ranked competitors and already have several of their athletes post NCAA qualifying marks, both automatically and provisionally. The senior duo of Ozzie Brown (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh HS) and Nathaniel Tussey (Perkiomenville, PA/Boyertown HS) make Moravian very strong in the sprints and hurdles.  Brown should be favored to win several events after being named the Male Field Athlete of the Meet at the 2008 Landmark Conference Indoor Championships, winning the 200-meter dash at the 2008 ECAC Division III Indoor Championships and the national championship in the long jump at the 2008 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships.

On the women’s side, Moravian is strong all around especially behind the trio of sophomores Rachel Beck (Churchville, PA/Council Rock South HS) and Jessica Posimo (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil Academy) and freshman Sydni Wisniewski (Orlando, FL/Winter Haven HS), who are likely the favorites to earn a large number of points in both track and field events.  Posimo won the indoor pentathlon at the 2008 ECAC Championships while Wisniewski was the 2008 Landmark Conference Female Athlete of the Meet at the Indoor Championships.  Sophomore Anna Heim (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown HS) should also be the favorite in the pole vault after automatically qualifying last weekend and placing third at the Penn Relays this week.
