MORAVIAN’S MARIA DeBONIS NAMED ECAC DIVISION III SOUTH SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

CAPE COD, MA --- Junior pitcher/designated player Maria DeBonis (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame HS) of the Moravian College softball team has been named the ECAC Division III South Softball Pitcher of the Week for her performance last week.

DeBonis, who was honored on Monday for the fourth time this season as the Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Week, was 3-0 in the circle last week including a pair of shutouts and her third perfect game of the season for the Greyhounds, who went 4-0 last week to complete the regular season at 30-6 overall and 12-0 in Landmark Conference action.

DeBonis had a 0.33 ERA, 23 strikeouts, three walks, seven hits and one run allowed in 21.0 innings of action.  She tossed a 7-0 shutout at Swarthmore to begin the week and then had a 2-0 perfect game versus Drew University on Saturday.  DeBonis added two runs scored, a hit and a walk at the plate and a putout and two assists in the field.

Moravian, which is 30-6 overall and was a perfect 12-0 during the inaugural Landmark Conference regular season, is scheduled to return to action on Friday, May 2nd when the team hosts the 2008 Landmark Conference Tournament at Blue & Grey Field.  The top seeded Greyhounds will open the tournament at 11:00 a.m. versus fourth seed Drew University, and that game will be followed by second seed The University of Scranton against third seeded The Catholic University of America at 1:00 p.m.
