TWO MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES HONORED WITH LVAIAW AWARDS

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Two Moravian College student-athletes, senior Beth Paly (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall HS) and sophomore Jessica Posimo (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil Academy HS), were honored with awards at the 2008 Lehigh Valley Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Annual Awards luncheon hosted by Moravian Thursday.

The LVAIAW is made up of seven schools, Cedar Crest College, DeSales University, Lafayette College, Lehigh University, Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, Moravian and Muhlenberg College.

Paly, who was named Moravian’s LVAIAW Outstanding Athlete for the school and is pictured at right, has helped Moravian's softball team to a 30-6 overall record and the top seed in the 2008 Landmark Conference Tournament, which begins at Moravian on Friday, May 2nd.  Paly, who was named the Landmark Conference Player of the Year and to the Landmark All-Conference First Team on Thursday, has a team leading 48 hits, a .425 average, 28 runs, eight doubles, two triples and 22 RBIs.  She has seen action at second base, shortstop, designated player and catcher this season.

Posimo, pictured at left, was honored as the LVAIAW Outstanding Athlete in track.  During the indoor season, Posimo won the Landmark Conference title in the 55-meter hurdles and helped the Greyhounds win the 4x200 and 4x400 relays as Moravian won the team title.  She was also first in the long jump and triple jump while placing third in the 200-meter dash and fourth in the 55-meter dash.  Posimo then won the ECAC Division III title in the indoor pentathlon while Moravian won the ECAC championship.  She was part of Moravian’s second place 4x200 relay team at the meet and was fifth in the 200-meter dash, sixth in the long jump and seventh in the 55-meter hurdles. 

At this past weekend’s 2008 Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by Moravian, Posimo was first in the 100-meter hurdles and triple jump while helping the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams to victory.  The Greyhounds captured the team title, and Posimo was also second in the long jump, third in the high jump, third in the 200-meter dash and fourth in the 100-meter dash.  Posimo is provisionally qualified for the 2008 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships May 22nd through 24th with a school record time of 14.77 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles.  Posimo and the Greyhounds will return to action on Thursday and Friday, May 15th and 16th at the ECAC Division III Outdoor Championship meet at Springfield (MA) College.
