MORAVIAN’S MARK FRANZYSHEN HONORED AS LANDMARK CONFERENCE MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

MADISON, NJ --- Senior forward Mark Franzyshen (Somerset, NJ/Immaculata HS) of the Moravian College men’s basketball team has been named the Landmark Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his performance last week.

Franzyshen helped Moravian return from its 23-day break with three straight wins to extended the team's winning streak to nine straight (the first nine-game winning streak since 1975-76) and the title at the 30th Annual Greyhound Starters Classic. Franzyshen, who was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player after scoring 19 points in each contest.

Franzyshen had 11 points, two rebounds and two assists in a 67-52 win over rival Muhlenberg College to begin the week.  He then had 19 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots in an 80-62 win over Neumann College in the first day of the Starters Greyhound Classic. Franzyshen finished the tournament with 19 points, six rebounds and two assists in a 67-65 victory over Richard Stockton College in the title game.

For the week, Franzyshen averaged 16.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game while shooting 54.8 percent (17 of 31) from the floor and 88.2 percent (15 of 17) at the foul line.  Franzyshen had four assists and three blocked shots while playing 81 minutes during the week.

Moravian, 10-2 overall and 1-0 in Landmark Conference action, will return to the court on Friday, January 11th in a Landmark Conference contest at Juniata College tipping off at 7:30 p.m.
