MORAVIAN BASEBALL SQUAD SELECTED THIRD IN LANDMARK CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL

MADISON, N.J. --- The 2008 Moravian College baseball squad has been selected to finish third in the inaugural Landmark Conference season in a preseason poll selected by the conference’s head coaches and sports information directors.

The Catholic University of America sits atop the poll with 55 points and six first place votes, followed by Juniata College in second with 49 points. The Greyhounds, who received one first place vote, were third with 36 points while the University of Scranton was fourth with 31 points. Drew University and Susquehanna University tied for fifth in the poll with 24 points each while The United States Merchant Marine Academy finished seventh with 12 points.

Moravian looks to make a return to the conference playoffs in 2008 in the debut season of the Landmark Conference with the return of eight starters and 22 letterwinners. Second year head coach Paul Engelhardt expects the squad to make it all the way to the conference finals and challenge for a bid to the NCAA Regional Tournament.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to start their 2008 season on Saturday, February 23rd in a non-conference game versus Rutgers-Camden at 3:00 p.m. as part of the Floyd B. Wilcox Memorial Tournament hosted by Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia.  Moravian and Rutgers-Camden will play a three-game series this weekend.  The Greyhounds are scheduled to begin the inaugural Landmark Conference season on Saturday, March 15th with a home doubleheader versus Susquehanna University beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Gillespie Field.
