BETHLEHEM, PA --- Former Moravian College track & field standout Christina Scherwin (Copenhagen, Denmark) will be competing in javelin at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China for her native Denmark beginning on August 19th.

Scherwin, who won the 2002 and 2003 NCAA Division III national championship in the event while participating for the Greyhounds, was 29th in the javelin at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, while still a student at Moravian.  She was fourth at the 2005 World Championships and fifth at the 2006 European Championships.  Scherwin has a career best throw of 64.83 meters (212 feet, eight inches), which is the seventh best throw of the 57 entries at the Olympics.

Scherwin left for Beijing on August 4th to participate in the Opening Ceremonies.  She is currently in Marugame, Japan, training with the Danish and Finnish track teams.  Scherwin, who is still recovering from shoulder surgery ten months ago and has only thrown 53.61 meters (175 feet, ten inches) this year, will head back to Beijing on August 16th for one final practice before competition.  The preliminary rounds are scheduled to begin on August 19th at 9:00 p.m. and 10:40 p.m. Eastern time with the final 12 competitors participating or those throwing at least 61.50 meters in the medal round on August 21st starting at 7:20 a.m. Eastern.
