MORAVIAN WOMEN’S SOCCER SQUAD SELECTED AS FAVORITE IN LANDMARK CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL

MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian College women’s soccer team has been picked to finish first in the 2008 Landmark Conference season in a preseason poll selected by the conference’s head coaches and sports information directors.

The Greyhounds were elected first in the poll with 60 points while The Catholic University of America was second with 49 points. The University of Scranton finished third in the preseason voting with 43 points while Juniata College collected 37 points to place fourth.  Rounding out the poll were Drew University with 32 points, Susquehanna University with 20 points and Goucher College with 11 points.

Expectations are high again this season for the Moravian College women’s soccer team with the 2008 squad returning 17 letterwinners and seven starters from last year’s 15-6-1 team under the direction of ten-year head coach Eric Lambinus. Last season, the Greyhounds reached the first round of the 2007 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament but came up short losing to Hamilton College 2-0.  The team began its preseason on Monday, August 18th.

Moravian will open its 2008 season on Saturday, August 30th against Stevens Institute of Technology at 7:00 p.m. at the Swat Kick Classic, in Swarthmore PA. The Greyhounds will not play at home this season until Wednesday, September 17th in a non-conference match with Haverford College at 4:00 p.m. on the HUB Quad. Moravian begins the Landmark Conference regular season contest on Saturday, September 27th when the Greyhounds travel Juniata College.
