MORAVIAN’S ROBINSON HONORED AS ECAC DIVISION III SOUTHWEST CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CAPE COD, MA --- Senior defensive back Carl Robinson (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley HS) of the Moravian College football team has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Southwest Co-Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Greyhounds’ come-from-behind 23-17 triple-overtime Centennial Conference victory over Juniata College last Saturday.

Robinson , who was also named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week, had just four tackles, two solo stops including a tackle for loss, but he added two interceptions, a pass break-up, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in the victory.  Robinson had interceptions near midfield in both the first and second quarters to give him five interceptions for the season and 14 for his career. With Moravian trailing 14-7 and just under two minutes to play, Robinson came in from his safety position and hit a Juniata running back for a three-yard loss.  On the play, Robinson stripped the ball and fell on it to set up the Moravian offense at the Juniata 41-yard line for what ended up being the game-tying score with just 30 seconds to play.

Robinson shares the ECAC award with junior defensive back Nelson Mitzen of Bethany College.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday, November 1st in a Centennial Conference game versus Ursinus College with kickoff slated for 1:00 p.m. at Rocco Calvo Field in Bethlehem.  Moravian will be participating in the NCAA Take a Kid to the Game program on Saturday with all children 14 and under admitted free with the purchase of one adult ticket.  Moravian’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, which Robinson serves as president, has games and activities scheduled for the children.
