MORAVIAN WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL SQUAD TO HOST THE CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF AMERICA IN
LANDMARK CONFERENCE FIRST ROUND

BETHLEHEM, PA --- The Moravian College women’s volleyball team is seeded fourth in the 2008 Landmark Conference Championship Tournament and will host fifth seeded The Catholic University of America for a first round match on Wednesday, November 5th at 7:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall.

The Greyhounds, who are 13-18 overall and posted a 3-3 mark in Landmark Conference regular season action, are making their 12th postseason appearance in the last 13 seasons.  The Cardinals enter the contest at 8-26 overall.  Catholic was 2-4 in Landmark Conference action during the regular season.

Wednesday’s other first round match features third seeded Susquehanna University hosting sixth seed Goucher College for a 7:00 p.m. match.  The winners of the first round matches will advance to the semifinals on Saturday, November 8th at top seeded Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.  The lowest remaining seed with play the host Eagles at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday in the first semifinal contest while the other first round winner will take on second seed The University of Scranton at 1:30 p.m. in the second semifinal.  The Championship match is slated for 7:00 p.m. Saturday night.

Moravian head coach Shelley Bauder has the Greyhounds in the postseason for the 12th time in her 16 seasons at the helm of the program.  Bauder surpassed the 300-win plateau last year and enters the Landmark Conference Championships with an overall record of 328-189.

Freshman middle hitter/outside hitter Katie Moquete (Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park HS) leads the Greyhounds with 291 kills to go along with 31 blocks, 89 digs, 10 service ace and six assists in her debut season.  Sophomore middle hitter Mary King (Paramus, NJ/Paramus HS), who out for the remainder of the season with an injury and ahs missed a total of nine matches, has added a team high 61 blocks to go with 180 kills, 32 service aces, 48 digs and nine assists while senior outside hitter Stephanie Struble (Hampton, NJ/Voorhees HS) has added 236 kills, 278 digs, 39 service aces, 25 blocks and 15 assists in her first year as a hitter.  Struble started at setter for the Greyhounds last fall and has become just the third player in school history to record 1,000 assists and 1,000 digs in a career.

Sophomore outside hitter/right side hitter Molly DuVall (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township HS) has contributed 183 kills, 207 digs, 46 blocks, 15 assists and four service aces this season while sophomore middle hitter Christine Reeser (Telford, PA/Christopher Dock HS) has 141 kills, 61 blocks to tie for the team lead, 12 digs, five assists and a service ace on the year.  Sophomore defensive specialist Katie Kercher (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall HS) has 190 digs for Moravian to go along with 21 service aces and four assists in her first year with the program while freshman libero/defensive specialist Ashley Schmidt (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) has 274 digs, 21 service aces and 21 assists.  Both Kercher and Schmidt have missed five matches due to injury.

Freshman setter Kristin Hannings (Levittown, PA/Pennsbury HS) has a team high 545 assists this fall to go with 221 digs, 39 service aces, 26 kills and 11 blocks while sophomore right side hitter/setter Christine Poole (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central HS) has contributed 345 assists, 83 digs, a team high 41 service aces, 27 kills and 12 blocks.

The Cardinals are coached by Nagy Abdelrazek, who is in his 15th season, and he has led Catholic to two NCAA Tournament appearances in the last eight years.

Leading Catholic is freshman middle hitter Molly Owens, who has a team high 152 kills, a team leading 57 blocks, 44 digs and 24 service aces, while junior outside hitter Kim Ray has contributed 147 kills, a team high 252 digs, 22 service aces, 11 blocks and five assists.  Junior middle/outside hitter Lynn Brown has 145 kills, 85 digs, 50 blocks, 25 service aces and five assists on the year for the Cardinals while senior middle hitter Kilah Fox has 135 kills, 139 digs, 43 blocks, 21 assists and 20 service aces.

Freshman outside hitter Katrina Baccetti has contributed 108 kills, 109 digs, 18 blocks, 11 service aces and seven assists in her debut season while sophomore opposite hitter Alex Min-Tin has 92 kills, 219 digs, 13 assists and nine service aces.  Freshman setter Michaela Carroll leads Catholic with 597 assists to go along with 22 kills, 193 digs, five blocks and a team high 45 service aces.

Freshman defensive specialist Gabrielle Dipasquantonio has 251 digs and seven service aces for the Cardinals while freshman libero Katy Ferris has 48 digs, 25 assists and five service aces.  Sophomore setter Katie Norberg has posted 58 assists, seven kills and 23 digs while freshman outside hitter Lauren Zelinski has 20 digs, seven kills and three service aces.
