THREE MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES TO COMPETE AT NCAA DIVISION III INDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

TERRE HAUTE, IN --- Moravian College has three student-athletes that will compete at the 2009 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana on Friday and Saturday, March 13th and 14th.

Junior Anna Heim (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown HS) will compete in the women’s pole vault for the third straight season.  Heim, pictured at right, is currently tied for first with three other vaulters with a height of 3.85 meters (12 feet, 9 ½ inches).  The pole vault is scheduled to begin on Friday at 12:00 p.m. with 16 competitors, and Heim is scheduled to vault first.  The top eight competitors will participate in the finals immediately following the preliminaries.  Heim was fourth at last year’s indoor championships to earn All-American honors.

Junior Jessica Posimo (Philadelphia, PA/ St. Basil Academy) is heading to the indoor national championships for the first time, and she will compete in the 55-meter hurdles.  Posimo, pictured at left, is ranked 14th of the 15 entrants with a Moravian school record time of 8.38 seconds.  The 55-meter hurdles preliminary heats are scheduled for 4:35 p.m. on Friday with the two heat winners and the next six fastest times advancing to the finals on Saturday at 2:25 p.m. Posimo is scheduled to be in the first heat running in lane four.

Junior Symonne Scott (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro HS) is also heading to the indoor national championships for the first time to compete in the long jump.  Scott, pictured at bottom right, enters the meet tied for eighth of 15 competitors with a season best mark of 5.57 meters (18 feet, 3 ¼ inches).  The long jump is scheduled to be the women’s first individual event on Friday at 10:00 a.m. with the top eight competitors participating in the finals immediately following the preliminaries.  Scott is scheduled to jump third in the second flight of the preliminaries.

Posimo and Scott are making their second trips to the national championship having both competed at the outdoor meet in 2008.
