MORAVIAN WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD TEAM FALLS TO 17TH IN THE NATION IN USTFCCCA RANKINGS

NEW ORLEANS, LA --- The Moravian College women’s track & field team fell five spots to 17th in the nation in the fifth NCAA Division III Dual Meet Rankings of the 2009 season released by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association late Wednesday.

The Greyhounds have a total of 134.61 points and remain the only team from the Mideast Region in the rankings.  The University of Wisconsin, La Crosse is ranked first with 159.64 points while Wartburg College is second with 157.18 points.

A team's total point score is the sum of all points earned by that team in each event. Teams are allowed to select up to two athletes per event, and an athlete can only be used in a maximum of three events (not including relays). Only one relay team per event can be selected. Schools are responsible for submitting their own results. The points are based on the best marks in an event in the current season (it's not the athlete's personal best; it's their best this season), according to www.d3rankings.us which coordinates the poll.

Moravian is gearing up to compete this upcoming weekend in the 2009 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships hosted by the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology located in Terre Haute, Indiana.  The Greyhounds will have three competitors with juniors Anna Heim (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown HS), Jessica Posimo (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil Academy) and Symonne Scott (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro HS) in the pole vault, 55-meter hurdles and long jump respectively.
