EIGHT GREYHOUNDS NAMED TO NFHCA DIVISION III NATIONAL ACADEMIC SQUAD;
MORAVIAN EARNS NATIONAL ACADEMIC TEAM AWARD

GLEN ALLEN, VA --- Eight members of the Moravian College field hockey team have been named to the 2008 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad announced Thursday by the NFHCA.

Moravian was also one of 102 NCAA Division III schools to earn the honor of being named an NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award winner for having a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Greyhounds were joined on the list by Landmark Conference rivals The Catholic University of America, Goucher College, Juniata College and the University of Scranton.

Seniors Laura Boyd (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley HS), Julia Garofalo (Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Township HS) and Lindsey Santacross (Bennington, VT/Mount Anthony HS), juniors Damara Varney (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) and Jill Schnable (Perkiomenville, PA/Boyertown HS), sophomores Lizzette Arias (Arlington, VA/Wakefield HS) and Alexandra Lopez (Manasquan, NJ/Manasquan HS) and freshman Sarah Keenhold (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth HS) and represented the Greyhounds on the squad which included over 1,070 NCAA Division III players from 111 teams. To be named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 grade-point average through the first semester of the 2008-09 academic year.

The group helped the Greyhounds post a 7-11 record including a 1-5 mark in Landmark Conference action.  Garofalo had a goal and four assists for six points while Varney added a goal and two assists for four points.  Boyd added a goal and an assist for three points with one defensive save.
