EIGHT GREYHOUND BASEBALL PLAYERS; TEAM RANKED IN NCAA DIVISION III STATISTICS;
Durso Tied for National Lead in Doubles

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- Eight members of the Moravian College baseball squad, and the Greyhound team are ranked in the second NCAA Division III statistics release of the 2009 season including games through March 29th.

Senior outfielder Joseph Durso (Middletown, NJ/Christian Brother Academy) is tied for first in the nation in doubles with 16 two-baggers in 32 hits in Moravian’s first 23 games of the season.  Durso, pictured at right, is also eighth in doubles per game at 0.70, tied for 15th in RBIs with 35, tied for 20th in RBIs per game at 1.52, tied for 28th in bases on balls with 19 and tied for 40th in sacrifice flies with three.

Sophomore outfielder/shortstop Jason Huber (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS), pictured at left, is tied for 24th in the country in runs with 33, and he is tied for 33rd in runs per game at 1.43.

Freshman first baseman/designated hitter Kevin O’Keefe (Alexandria, VA/Bishop Ireton HS), pictured at right, is tied for 42nd in triples with three this season, and he is also tied for 42nd in RBIs per game with an average of 1.33.


Senior outfielder Eric Shea (Madison, NJ/Morristown Beard HS) is tied for 36th in the country in stolen bases with 14 this spring, and Shea, pictured at left, is 47th in stolen bases per game with an average of 0.74.

Freshman designated hitter/catcher Joe Bartolacci (Easton, PA/Notre Dame HS) , pictured at right, is tied for 12th in sacrifice flies with four this season.


On the mound, freshman pitcher Brendan Close (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS) is tied for eighth in the nation in strikeouts with 56, and Close , pictured t left, is 11th in strikeouts per nine innings with an average of 13.16, and tied for 34th in victories with four.

Freshman hurler Thomas Fenyak (Centreville, VA/Westfield HS) is also tied for 34th in victories this spring with four, and Fenyak, pictured at bottom right, is 48th in walks allowed per nine innings at just 1.57.

Junior pitcher Ryan Cummings (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East HS), pictured at bottom left, is 19th in strikeouts per nine innings with an average of 11.66, and he is tied for 50th in saves with two.

The Greyhounds are ranked in the top 50 in the nation in 11 categories including being seventh in the nation in doubles with 68 and ninth in doubles per game with an average of 2.96.  Moravian is 15th in strikeouts per nine innings with an average of 9.1, tied for 21st in sacrifice flies with 15, tied for 26th in runs with 199, 33rd in walks allowed per nine innings at 3.08, tied for 24th in bases on balls with 104, tied for 26th in hits with 261,, tied for 36th in triples with ten, tied for 37th in stolen bases with 46 and tied for 38th in hit by pitch with 29.

Moravian, which is 14-9 on the season, is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, April 1st in a non-conference game at Centenary College beginning at 4:00 p.m.
