FIVE GREYHOUND BASEBALL PLAYERS; TEAM RANKED IN NCAA DIVISION III STATISTICS;
Durso Tied for National Lead in Doubles

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- Five members of the Moravian College baseball squad, and the Greyhound team are ranked in the third NCAA Division III statistics release of the 2009 season including games through April 5th.

Senior outfielder Joseph Durso (Middletown, NJ/Christian Brother Academy) is tied for first in the nation in doubles with 17 two-baggers in 34 hits in Moravian’s first 24 games of the season.  Durso, pictured at right, is also fourth in doubles per game at 0.71, tied for 27th in RBIs with 37 and 26th in RBIs per game at 1.54.

Sophomore outfielder/shortstop Jason Huber (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) , pictured at right, is tied for 49th in the country in runs with 34, and he is tied for 46th in runs per game at 1.42.

Freshman designated hitter/catcher Joe Bartolacci (Easton, PA/Notre Dame HS), pictured at right, is tied for seventh in sacrifice flies with five this season.


On the mound, freshman pitcher Brendan Close (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS), pictured at bottom left, is tied for 17th in the nation in strikeouts with 56, and he is sixth in strikeouts per nine innings with an average of 13.16.

Junior pitcher Ryan Cummings (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East HS), pictured at bottom right, is 18th in strikeouts per nine innings with an average of 11.56.

The Greyhounds are ranked in the top 50 in the nation in six categories including being tied for 12th in the nation in doubles with 70 and 12th in doubles per game with an average of 2.92.  Moravian is 14th in strikeouts per nine innings with an average of 9.0, tied for 26th in sacrifice flies with 16, 45th in walks allowed per nine innings at 3.27 and tied for 50th in bases on balls with 108.

Moravian, which is 14-10 on the season, is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, April 8th in a non-conference game at Keystone College beginning at 4:00 p.m.
