FIVE GREYHOUND BASEBALL PLAYERS; TEAM RANKED IN NCAA DIVISION III STATISTICS

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- Five members of the Moravian College baseball squad, and the Greyhound team are ranked in the fourth NCAA Division III statistics release of the 2009 season including games through April 12th.

Senior outfielder Joseph Durso (Middletown, NJ/Christian Brother Academy) is tied for third in the nation in doubles with 17 two-baggers in 41 hits in Moravian’s first 28 games of the season.  Durso, pictured at right, is also third in doubles per game at 0.61, tied for 20th in RBIs with a school record 44 and 23rd in RBIs per game at 1.57.

Sophomore outfielder/shortstop Jason Huber (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS), pictured at left, is tied for 27th in the country in runs with a school record 42, and he is tied for 18th in runs per game at 1.50.

Freshman first baseman Kevin O’Keefe (Alexandria, VA/Bishop Ireton HS) is 41st in the country in slugging percentage at .775 with 62 total bases in 80 at-bats, and O’Keefe, pictured at right, is 43rd in the nation in RBIs per game at 1.46.

 

Freshman designated hitter/catcher Joe Bartolacci (Easton, PA/Notre Dame HS), pictured at bottom left, is tied for 13th in sacrifice flies with five this season.

On the mound, freshman pitcher Brendan Close (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS) is 16th in the nation in strikeouts with 62, and Close, pictured at bottom right, is 13th in strikeouts per nine innings with an average of 12.32.

The Greyhounds are ranked in the top 50 in the nation in 11 categories including being tied for 11th in the nation in doubles with 80 and sixth in doubles per game with an average of 2.86.  Moravian is 16th in strikeouts per nine innings with an average of 8.6, tied for 36th in sacrifice flies with 17, 35th in walks allowed per nine innings at 3.14, 36th in bases on balls with 130, tied for 31st in runs with 261, 34th in scoring with an average of 9.3 runs per game, tied for 19th with 14 triples, tied for 36th in triples per game at 0.5 and 37th in slugging percentage at .510.

Moravian, which is 17-11 on the season, is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, April 15th in a non-conference game at Misericordia University beginning at 4:00 p.m.
