FOUR MORAVIAN PLAYERS NAMED TO 2009 LANDMARK MEN’S TENNIS ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS;
Greyhound Coaches Honored as Staff of the Year

MADISON, NJ --- The Moravian College men’s tennis team has had four student-athletes earn spots on the 2009 Landmark All-Conference Teams with junior Ian Box (Charlestown, MA/The Rivers School) and sophomore Doug Morrow (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh HS) making the First Team as singles players and a doubles team while freshmen Kevin Holze (Bayside, NY/St. Francis Prep HS) and Drew Shreter (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown HS) earning Second Team honors as singles players and a doubles tandem.

Greyhound co-head coaches Jim Walker, pictured at right, and Neil Caniga were named the 2009 Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of the Year.

The Landmark All-Conference Teams were selected by the conference’s eight head coaches.  The teams consist of six singles players and three doubles pairings per team based on flight.

Walker and Caniga, pictured at left, had the Greyhounds in the postseason for the third straight season with a team that included just one season.  The Greyhounds finished the season with a 13-6 mark, tying the school record for wins, and the squad reached the 2009 Landmark Conference Championship match, the program’s first-ever appearance in a conference title contest, falling to Drew University, 6-3.

Box, who was the 2008 Landmark Conference Player of the Year while earning spots on the Landmark All-Conference First Team in singles and the All-Conference Second Team in doubles, was 12-7 on the year with a 9-3 slate at second singles before getting a season ending injury during the last week of the regular season kept Box, pictured at right, out of the Moravian line-up in the postseason.

Morrow, pictured at left, was 9-16 in singles for the Greyhounds in his first year with the program, and he was 6-10 in the first position in the line-up.  Box and Morrow were 11-8 in doubles action including a 9-5 record at first doubles.

Holze, pictured at bottom right, led Moravian in singles action with a 21-4 mark including a 10-2 record at third singles and a 3-1 slate at second singles.  Holze set the current school record holder for singles wins in a season.

Shreter, pictured at bottom left, had a 20-3 mark this season including a 9-2 slate at fourth singles.  Shreter started the year at 13-0 in singles play and also passed the previous school record of 17 singles victories in a season.  In doubles action, Holze and Shreter have combined for a 15-7 record, which is the school single season doubles win record, with a 9-6 slate at second doubles.
