MORAVIAN’S ERICA KLEPEISZ NAMED TO ESPN The MAGAZINE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT FIRST TEAM

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Junior Erica Klepeisz (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth HS) of the Moravian College softball team team has been named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II College Division Softball First Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

By making the All-District First Team, Klepeisz is now forwarded onto the national ballot to try for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American® accolades, which will be announced on Wednesday, May 27th. 

To be eligible for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® accolades, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior or senior and be a starter or significant reserve. The College Division is made up of all the NCAA Division II and III schools in the nation as well as all NAIA schools.  Student-athletes from NCAA Division I schools are named to the University Division Teams.  District II is made up of schools from Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Klepeisz, who has a 3.60 GPA and is majoring in elementary education and history, was named to the Landmark All-Conference First Team for a second straight year.  Klepeisz, who earned a spot on the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-East Region Second Team in 2006 and 2007 as well, is hitting .364 with 43 hits in 118 at-bats to go with 24 runs, 19 RBIs, four doubles, three triples, two homers, a .500 slugging percentage, ten walks and three stolen bases.  Klepeisz, who moved into a tie for second in school history with 191 career hits, has added 53 putouts and four assists in 58 chances while playing left and center fields during the season.

The Greyhounds have posted a 35-9 overall record this spring including a win on the opening round of the 2009 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament Thursday, the 16th consecutive season that Moravian has won at least 23 games, and an 11-1 mark in the Landmark Conference regular season.  The Greyhounds made the postseason for the 15th consecutive season and win the 2009Landmark Conference Championship Tournament.  Moravian is in the NCAA Tournament for the 11th time in 12 years.

Klepeisz will try to become the 34th ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American in Moravian history and the 29th in the last 16 years.
