FOUR SOFTBALL PLAYERS AND MORAVIAN TEAM RANKED IN FINAL NCAA DIVISION III SOFTBALL STATISTICS;
Carmon Leads Nation in Fewest Walks Allowed

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- The Moravian College softball team and four student-athletes are ranked in the final NCAA Division III statistics release of the 2009 season.

Freshman pitcher/designated player Jenna Carmon (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central HS) led the nation in fewest walks allowed at 0.27 per game.  Carmon, pictured at right, walked just four batters in 103 2/3 innings in her debut season.  She was also seventh in the country in ERA at 0.81, 35th in hits allowed per seven innings with 4.73 with a total of 70 hits allowed and tied for 39th in saves with two. Carmon allowed just 18 runs this spring with 12 of those being earned runs, and she added 39 strikeouts.

Senior pitcher/designated player Maria DeBonis (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame HS) was 39th in the nation in ERA at 1.24 and 22nd in hits allowed per seven innings at 4.24.  DeBonis, pictured at left, gave up 45 runs, just 27 of them earned to go along with 161 strikeouts and just 92 allowed hits in 152 innings of action.

Freshmen outfielder Olivia Evanko (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) was tied for tenth in the country for sacrifice hits per game at 0.40 with 18 sacrifice hits in 45 games.  Of the 40 players ranked, Evanko, pictured at right, was tied fifth in total sacrifice hits this season. Her 18 sacrifice bunts accounted for nearly a third of Moravian's total of 58 for the season, and Evanko had one of the team's 18 sacrifice flies during the year.

Sophomore second basemen Stephanie Falzarano (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) was 21st in the nation at toughest to strike out with an average of going 50 at-bats without being struck out.  Falzarano, pictured at bottom left, struck out just three times in 150 at-bats in 2009.  Falzarano was tied for 13th in toughest to strike out in 2008, and she has registered just five strikeouts in 260 career at-bats.

The Greyhounds were ranked in the top 50 in the nation in three categories including being fifth in the country in ERA at 1.03.  Moravian was 27th in fielding percentage at .966 and tied for 31st in winning percentage at .761.

Moravian, which won the 2009 Landmark Conference Championship, finished the season with a 35-11 overall record and an 11-1 mark in Landmark Conference action.  The Greyhounds also made their 11th NCAA Division III Tournament appearance in the last 12 seasons.
