FOUR MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES NAMED TO LANDMARK CONFERENCE FALL ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

MADISON, NJ --- Seniors Tracy Fitzpatrick (Wantage, NJ/High Point Regional HS), Alexandra Frascella (Chatham, NJ/Chatham HS) and Chris Nederostek (Lansdale, PA/Christopher Dock HS) and sophomore Connor Skutches (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) from Moravian College have been named to the 2008 Landmark Conference Fall All-Academic Team announced Tuesday.

The Landmark Conference has selected 32 student-athletes for the 2008 Fall Landmark All-Academic Team. Two male and two female athletes from each of the eight Landmark institutions were selected for the team which honors athletes who have excelled athletically and academically. Nominees could compete in any of the Landmark fall sports and must be a sophomore or older with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.

The fall All-Academic Team features 17 seniors, 12 juniors and three sophomores.  Seven honorees are earning fall All-Academic honors for the second time in their careers.  In addition all six fall sports sponsored by the Landmark Conference are represented with at least one student-athlete. The Landmark Conference will select an All-Academic Team for each of the three athletics seasons during the year.

Fitzpatrick who was named the Landmark Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight season, led Moravian in scoring with 11 goals and eight assists for 30 points as the team posted a 14-6-2 mark and reached the NCAA Division III Tournament for the second consecutive year.  Fitzpatrick, who has also been on the Landmark All-Conference First Team the last two falls, moved into third in school history with 87 points in her career of 33 goals, ranked third in the record books, and 21 assists, which is tied for second.  Fitzpatrick, pictured at top right, was a member of the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll this fall, and plans to be a teacher after graduation while majoring in English and secondary education.

Frascella, who was on the Landmark All-Conference Second Team, contributed three assists this season while also starting all 22 matches on Moravian’s defense this season that posted 11 shutouts and allowed just 15 goals in 22 contests.  Moravian was 14-6-2 overall, won the Landmark Conference title and reached the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year.  Frascella, who was a Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll selection, plans to be a teacher while majoring in psychology and elementary education.

Nederostek, who was named to the Landmark All-Conference Second Team, posted a 1.74 goals-against average with 97 saves, three shutouts and five victories in 1,449 minutes of action in goal for the Greyhounds.  During his career, Nederostek, pictured at right, had a 1.80 goals-against average with 264 saves, eight shutouts and 14 wins.  Nederostek was a three-year starter in goal, seeing action in 48 matches and a total of 4,105 minutes.  A Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll selection, Nederostek plans to pursue a career in business management.

Skutches, pictured at bottom left, earned Landmark All-Conference First Team honors with a seventh place finish of 82 runners on the 8,000-meter course in a time of 27:39.4.  As a freshman, Skutches was named to the Landmark All-Conference Second Team with a 12th place finish in 28:59.  Skutches was a Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll selection and is working towards a degree in Environmental Studies.
