MORAVIAN’S KIRSTY STEARNS HONORED AS LANDMARK CONFERENCE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

MADISON, NJ --- Junior forward Kirsty Stearns (East Norwich, NY/Oyster Bay HS) of the Moravian College women’s basketball team has been named the Landmark Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for her performance last week.

Stearns came off the bench for her first double-double of the season to lead Moravian to a 73-68 overtime win over NCAA Division II East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania in the Greyhounds' only game last week.  The win was the fourth straight for Moravian, all at home, and the third straight contest the Greyhounds came from behind to win in the second half.  The victory was also the first-ever for Moravian over a Division II program.  Stearns connected on six of 12 field goals, her only three-point attempt and five of eight free throws including four straight in the second half and overtime to score a team high 18 points.  Stearns also grabbed a game high 11 rebounds with two steals and an assist while playing 34 minutes.

Moravian has improved to 6-1 overall this season, and the Greyhounds are 1-0 in Landmark Conference action.  Moravian is scheduled to return to the court on Monday, December 15th when the squad travels to rival Muhlenberg College for a non-conference contest tipping off at 6:00 p.m.  Both squads are nationally ranked in the latest USA Today/ESPN Division III Coaches’ Top 25 Poll with Moravian ranked 23rd and Muhlenberg ranked 18th.
