MORAVIAN WOMEN’S LACROSSE TEAM SELECTED SIXTH IN LANDMARK CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL

MADISON, N.J. --- The 2009 Moravian College women’s lacrosse team has been picked to finish sixth in the Landmark Conference season in a preseason poll selected by the conference’s head coaches and sports information directors.

The Catholic University of America picked up each first-place vote in the balloting to accrue 45 points and earn the top spot. Drew University earned the second spot in the polling with 32 points. Goucher College and The University of Scranton were third and fourth respectively in a tight voting that saw Goucher earn 26 points and Scranton finish with 23. Susquehanna University polled just ahead of the Greyhounds with a total of 15 points.

Head coach Kate Miller is looking to return one senior, five juniors, and six sophomores from last year’s record breaking 9-7 squad this spring.  Leading the Greyhounds going into the 2009 season is junior attack Jillian Pagliei (Ivyland, PA/Council Rock North HS), who contributed 33 goals, three assists, 22 ground balls, five draw controls and seven caused turnovers last season.

The Greyhounds begin their 2009 season on Saturday, February 28th in a non-conference match versus Swarthmore College as part of the Tri-Co Invitational at Haverford College beginning at 3:00 p.m.  Moravian’s inaugural Landmark Conference match will be on Saturday, March 28th at Catholic University at 12:30 p.m.
