MORAVIAN BASEBALL SQUAD SELECTED FIFTH IN LANDMARK CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL

MADISON, N.J. --- The 2009 Moravian College baseball squad has been selected to finish fifth in the upcoming Landmark Conference season in a preseason poll selected by the conference’s head coaches and sports information directors.

In the tightest voting of the spring season in which the top three teams are separated by just five points The Catholic University of America was tabbed as the favorite in the seven-team poll the with 54 points. Susquehanna University and The University of Scranton tied for the second position in the poll each earning 49 points in the voting. Juniata College was just seven points back with 42 to hold the fourth spot. The Greyhounds were fifth with 28. Drew University and the United States Merchant Marine Academy both received 15 points which tied them for sixth in the preseason poll.

Moravian looks to make a return to the conference playoffs in 2009 in the debut season of the Landmark Conference with the return of eight starters and 20 letterwinners. Third year head coach Paul Engelhardt expects the squad to make it all the way to the conference finals and challenge for a bid to the NCAA Regional Tournament.

The Greyhounds have already played in three games so far this season including at 25-10 victory over Waynesburg College on February 22nd at the Floyd B. Wilcox Memorial Tournament hosted by Hampden-Sydney College in Hampden-Sydney, Virginia   The Greyhounds are scheduled to begin the 2009 Landmark Conference season on Saturday, March 14th with an away doubleheader versus Susquehanna University beginning at 1:00 p.m.
