MORAVIAN WOMEN’S SOCCER SQUAD SELECTED THIRD IN 2009 LANDMARK CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL

MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian College women’s soccer team has been picked third in the 2009 Landmark Conference season in a preseason poll selected by the conference’s head coaches and sports information directors.

The University of Scranton was selected first in the poll with 59 points while The Catholic University of America was second with 57 points. The defending champion Greyhounds finished third in the preseason voting with 55 points while Juniata College collected 37 points to place fourth.  Rounding out the poll were Drew University with 28 points, Susquehanna University with 24 points and Goucher College with 12 points.

Expectations are high again this season for the Moravian College women’s soccer team with the 2009 squad returning 19 letterwinners and eight starters from last year’s 14-6-2 team. Last season, the Greyhounds reached the first round of the 2008 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament, the team's second straight NCAA appearance, and the squad captured the Landmark Conference Championship, the first conference title in school history.

Head Coach Eric Lambinus is going into his 11th year as coach of the squad, and he feels that the team can get back into the NCAA Championship Tournament with some hard work and leadership from his returning players.  The team began its preseason on Tuesday, August 18th.

Moravian will open its 2009 season on Tuesday, September 1st at Haverford College. The Greyhounds will not play at home this season until Wednesday, September 9th in a non-conference match with Delaware Valley College at 4:00 p.m. on the HUB Quad. Moravian begins the Landmark Conference regular season contest on Saturday, September 26th when the Greyhounds host Drew University.
