MORAVIAN’S SARAH HALPIN & DIANA FELDMANN NAMED TO ESPN The Magazine ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAMS

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Junior goalie Sarah Halpin (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West HS) has been named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II College Division Women’s Soccer First Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America while sophomore defender Diana Feldmann (York, PA/Central York HS) was on the All-District Second Team.

By making the All-District First Team, Halpin, pictured at right, is now forwarded onto the national ballot to try for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American® accolades, which will be announced on Tuesday, November 17th.  Moravian has had 34 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-Americans including 29 in the last 16 years.

To be eligible for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® accolades, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior or senior and be a starter or significant reserve. The College Division is made up of all the NCAA Division II and III schools in the nation as well as all NAIA schools.  Student-athletes from NCAA Division I schools are named to the University Division Teams.  District II is made up of schools from Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Halpin, who is in her first year as Moravian’s starting goalie, has a 1.16 goals-against average with 64 saves, five shutouts and an 8-6-2 mark in 1,474 minutes of action this fall.  Halpin has been in goal for all but eight minutes of the season for Moravian.  Halpin is majoring in mathematics and elementary education.

Feldmann, who is in her second season as a starting defender for the Greyhounds, has two goals and two assists for six points this season, and one of her two goals was a header in overtime on a corner kick to give Moravian a 2-1 overtime victory over Muhlenberg College.  Feldmann, pictured at left, is still undecided on a major.

Moravian, which is 8-6-2 overall and 3-1-1 in Landmark Conference action, closes out the 2009 regular season in a Landmark Conference match at The Catholic University of America on Sunday, November 1st at 12:30 p.m.
