MORAVIAN WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL SQUAD TO TRAVEL TO GOUCHER COLLEGE
IN LANDMARK CONFERENCE QUARTERFINALS

BETHLEHEM, PA --- The Moravian College women’s volleyball team is seeded fifth in the 2009 Landmark Conference Championship Tournament and will travel to play the fourth seeded Goucher College Gophers for a quarterfinal match on Wednesday, November 4th at 7:00 p.m.

The Greyhounds, who are 15-17 overall and posted a 2-4 mark in Landmark Conference regular season action, are making their 13th postseason appearance in the last 14 seasons.  The Gophers enter the contest at 16-11 overall.  Goucher was 3-3 in Landmark Conference action during the regular season, and defeated Moravian 3-2 on October 4th in Johnston Hall.

Wednesday’s other quarterfinal match features third seeded Catholic University hosting sixth seed The United States Merchant Marine Academy for a 7:00 p.m. match.  The winners of the first round matches will advance to the semifinals on Saturday, November 7th at top seeded Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. The winner of the Moravian vs. Goucher match will advance to play the host Eagles at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday in the first semifinal contest while the other first round winner will take on second seed Susquehanna University at 1:30 p.m. in the second semifinal.  The Championship match is slated for 7:00 p.m. Saturday night.

Moravian head coach Shelley Bauder has the Greyhounds in the postseason for the 13th time in her 17 seasons at the helm of the program.   Bauder surpassed the 300-win plateau two years ago and enters the Landmark Conference Championships with an overall record of 343-206.  The Greyhounds were the fourth seed in the last two Landmark Conference Tournaments.

Sophomore middle hitter/outside hitter Katie Moquete (Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park HS) leads the Greyhounds with 257 kills to go along with 30 blocks, 132 digs, 17 service ace and four assists this season.  Junior middle blocker Mary King (Paramus, NJ/Paramus HS) has added a team high 102 blocks to go with 245 kills, 47 service aces, 51 digs and seven assists while freshmen right side hitter Samantha Savite (Hackettstown, NJ/West Morris Central HS) has contributed 221 kills, 40 digs and 67 blocks in her debut season as a Greyhound.

Junior setter Christine Poole (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central HS) has a team leading 636 assists to go along with 38 service aces, 194 digs and 12 blocks while sophomore setter Kristin Hannings (Levittown, PA/Pennsbury HS) has put up 320 assists, 32 service aces and 200 digs.  Freshmen outside hitter Jesse Krasley (Allentown, PA/Parkland HS) leads the team in digs with 295 this season to go along with 22 blocks, 132 digs, and 22 service aces while sophomore defensive specialist Ashley Schmidt (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) recorded 271 digs and 17 service aces this season.

Junior defensive specialist Katie Kercher (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall HS) has posted 250 digs, 16 assists and eight service aces while junior middle blocker Christine Reeser (Telford, PA/Christopher Dock HS) knocked down 130 kills, nine service aces, 29 digs and 72 blocks on the year.  Junior right side hitter Molly DuVall (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township HS) has contributed 93 kills, six service aces, 68 digs and 27 blocks while freshmen outside hitter JeanAnne Carey (Levittown, PA/Pennsbury HS) has added 54 kills, seven service aces and 51 digs in her collegiate debut season.

The Gophers are coached by Michael Bossom, who is in his fourth season, and he has led Goucher to the Landmark Conference Tournament for the second straight season.

Leading Goucher is senior outside hitter Megan Smith, who has team highs of 377 kills, 424 digs and 40 service aces to go along with 34 blocks, 18 service aces and a .202 hitting percentage.  Junior outside hitter Kasey Quinn has contributed 168 kills, 264 digs, 39 assists, 33 service aces and 11 blocks this fall while senior middle hitter/opposite hitter Catie Ditmore has a team high 35 blocks to go along with 122 kills, 208 digs, 34 assists and 33 service aces.

Junior setter Claire Sauvage-Mar leads the Gophers’ offense with 756 assists to go with 278 digs, 55 kills, 30 blocks and 27 service aces while freshman outside hitter/defensive specialist Ashley Fan has 335 digs, 120 kills,31 service aces, 28 assists and 13 blocks for Goucher.  Junior outside hitter/defensive specialist Rebecca Schaefer has 201 digs and 24 service aces on the year while senior middle hitter Carolyn Crissey has contributed 80 kills, 33 digs and 31 blocks.  Freshman defensive specialist Ashley Forbes has 26 digs, ten service aces and three kills on the year while freshman middle hitter Maryah Cole has added 14 kills and four blocks.  Junior defensive specialist Katherine Genton has 57 digs and 21 service aces for the Gophers.
