FIVE MORAVIAN FOOTBALL PLAYERS RANKED IN NCAA DIVISION III STATISTICS

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- The Moravian College football team has five players ranked in the ninth NCAA Division III statistical rankings of 2009 through games of November 8th, and the Greyhounds are ranked in the top 50 in one team category.

Freshman defensive back/kick returner Travis King (Wilmington, DE/Concord HS) is 56th in the nation in punt returns with an average of 8.93 yards per return, and King, pictured at right, is 72nd in kickoff returns at 23.52 yards per return.  King has 14 punt returns for 125 yards and 25 kickoff returns, which is tied the school record in a single season, for 588 yards this fall.  His longest returns, a 29-yard punt return and a 56-yard kickoff return both came against Dickinson College on October 3rd.

Freshman running back/kick returner Langston Ross (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) is 76th in the country in kickoff returns, averaging 23.33 yards per return.  Ross, pictured at left, has returned 15 kickoffs for 350 yards this season with a long return of 52 yards versus McDaniel College on September 12th.

Senior running back Ryan Rempe (Dickson City, PA/Mid-Valley HS) is 67th in the nation in rushing yardage at 89.50 yards per game.  Rempe, pictured at right, has 716 yards and a touchdown on 193 carries in seven games.  Rempe was in for just one play against McDaniel College on September 12th before being injured, and he missed the September 19th game versus Lebanon Valley College.

Sophomore kicker Ian Heck (Easton, PA/Easton HS) is tied for 72nd in the country in field goals per game with an average of 0.67 per contest.  Heck, pictured at left, is six-for-seven in his first season as Moravian’s starting kicker, and he has a long kick of 30 yards versus Lebanon Valley College.

Junior defensive lineman Allen Petros (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) is tied for 74th in the country in tackles for loss with an average of 1.43 tackle for loss per game.  Petros, pictured at bottom right, has registered ten tackles for loss, seven solo stops and six assists, in seven games for Moravian.  Petros, who missed two games with an injury, has a total of 37 tackles including four sacks this season.

Moravian is 15th in the nation in kickoff returns with an average of 23.40 yards per return on 42 kickoff returns this season, and the Greyhounds are first in the Centennial Conference in kickoff returns.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday, November 14th in a Centennial Conference game at Muhlenberg College.  Kickoff for the season finale is slated for 1:00 p.m. at Scotty Wood Stadium and Frank Marino Field in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
