MORAVIAN’S KATE HARRISON & KIRSTY STEARNS NAMED TO D3HOOPS.COM ALL-REGION TEAMS

MINNEAPOLIS, MN --- Seniors guard Kate Harrison (Cold Spring Harbor, NY/Cold Spring Harbor HS) and Kirsty Stearns (East Nowrich, NY/Oyster Bay HS) of the Moravian College women’s basketball team have been named to the 2010 D3hoops.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region Teams announced Tuesday with Stearns earning a spot on the Second Team and Harrison being named to the Third Team.

The 15 selections from the Mid-Atlantic Region included players from 12 different schools.  In addition to Moravian, Muhlenberg College and Lebanon Valley College each had two selections, one on the first team and one on the second team.  All of the D3hoops.com All-Region selections from all eight regions are eligible to be named to the 2010 D3hoops.com All-America Teams that will be announced this weekend at the Final Four.

Harrison and Stearns, who are also finalists Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-America Team, helped Moravian to a 25-3 record this season, a 20-game winning streak which was the third longest in school history, the program’s first-ever Landmark Conference title and a berth in the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament for the second straight year.

Stearns, who was also named to the Landmark All-Conference First Team this winter, led Moravian in scoring and rebounding with average of 11.9 points and 6.8 boards per game.  Stearns , pictured at left also contributed 54 blocked shots, 42 steals and 37 assists this season while shooting 86.8 percent (99-for-115) at the foul line.  Stearns completed her career 15th all-time in scoring 1,114 points, eighth with 651 rebounds, second in career free throw percentage 83.4 percent (301-of-361) and tied for 12th in games played at 109.

Harrison, who was named to the Landmark All-Conference First Team in 2010 and 2009 as well as the Second Team in 2008, was second on the squad netting in 10.9 points per game to go along with an average of 5.7 rebounds per contest.  Harrison , pictured at right, led Moravian with 85 assists and 43 steals while committing just 67 turnovers while playing 25.4 minutes per game.  She also had 27 blocked shots and shot 74.7 percent (59-of-79) at the foul line this season.  Harrison, who was also named the 2010 Pete Nevins Lehigh Valley Small College Women’s Basketball Co-Player of the Year, finished her career 14th in scoring with 1,134 points, 15th with 513 rebounds, sixth in assists with 281 and tied for seventh in games played at 112.
