EIGHT GREYHOUNDS NAMED TO NFHCA DIVISION III NATIONAL ACADEMIC SQUAD;
MORAVIAN EARNS NATIONAL ACADEMIC TEAM AWARD

GLEN ALLEN, VA --- Eight members of the Moravian College field hockey team have been named to the 2009 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad announced by the NFHCA.

Moravian was also one of 100 NCAA Division III schools to earn the honor of being named an NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award winner for having a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Greyhounds were joined on the list by Landmark Conference rivals The Catholic University of America, Juniata College and Susquehanna University.

Seniors Damara Varney (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) and Patty Eck (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua HS), juniors Maura Acox (Old Bridge, NJ/St. John Vianney HS), Lizzette Arias (Arlington, VA/Wakefield HS) and Alexandra Lopez (Manasquan, NJ/Manasquan HS) sophomore Erica Cernobyl (Allentown, PA/Dieruff HS) and freshmen Kristen Gehm (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg HS) and Catherine Gottlieb (Blackwood, NJ/Paul VI HS) represented the Greyhounds on the squad which included over 1,040 NCAA Division III players from 116 teams. To be named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 grade-point average through the first semester of the 2009-10 academic year.

The group helped the Greyhounds post a 7-11 record including a 2-4 mark in Landmark Conference action.  Acox, pictured at left, had a 1.73 goals-against average71 saves, four shutouts and a 7-8 record in goal for Moravian while Gehm made five saves in limited action.
