37 GREYHOUNDS NAMED TO 2010 LANDMARK CONFERENCE WINTER ACADEMIC HONOR ROLL

MADISON, N.J. --- The Landmark Conference has recognized 265 student-athletes including 36 students from Moravian College by selecting them for the 2010 Winter Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll. The honorees were selected from all eight Landmark Conference institutions.

The Landmark Academic Honor Roll recognizes all winter student athletes of sophomore standing or older with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. The student-athlete must complete the winter season in good standing with their team.  The Landmark Winter All-Academic Team, which features two male and two female student-athletes from each Landmark institution will be released later this winter.

The Landmark Conference is in its third season of competition and includes eight institutions covering the mid-Atlantic region. The Landmark crowned six team championships this winter, and sent six programs to either the NCAA or ECAC postseason and had a total of six athletes qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field and NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, with five of the six earning All-America honors.

Moravian had student-athletes selected from all four of its winter teams that compete in the conference with the women’s track and field team leading the way with 16 honorees.  The men’s track and field had nine student-athletes earn Landmark Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll accolades while the women’s basketball team had eight selections and the men’s basketball team had four.

Senior Anna Heim (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown HS) led the honorees for the women’s track and field team by winning the 2010 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championship in the pole vault with an NCAA meet record and NCAA Division III all-time best height of 4.16 meters (13 feet, 7 ¾ inches).  Along with Heim, seniors Jessica Posimo (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil Academy), Rachel Beck (Churchville, PA/Council Rock South HS), Rachel Riggs (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg HS) and Katelyn Chando (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh HS) all earned first place finishes at the 2010 Landmark Conference Indoor Championships.  The women’s track and field team was able to send athletes to both the 2010 ECAC Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships and the 2010 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships.

Also making the Landmark Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll were juniors Rebekah Finn (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS), Mallory Goggins (Wilmington, DE/Wilmington Friends HS), Kaleen Holden (Scranton, PA/Bishop Hannan HS) and Alyssa Wert (Orefield, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) and sophomores Anne Joseph (Livingston, NJ/Livingston HS), Lauren Molchan (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands HS), Brittany Moses (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge HS), Catherine Rockwell (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson HS) and Kristina Ruggerio (Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove HS).

Leading the honorees for the men’s track and field team are senior Christian Seebode (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg HS), junior Jacob Tazik (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing HS) and sophomores Timothy Layng (Canton, PA/Canton HS) and Matthew Lutcza (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley HS) who all competed in the 2009 Landmark Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.  Also making the honor roll are sophomores Jordan Barton (Williamsport, PA/Montoursville HS), Nicco Dalpiaz (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy HS), Kyle D’Angelo (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern HS), Mike Facchiano (Allentown, PA/Parkland HS) and Zachariah Rivenbank (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh HS)

Seniors guards Amanda Brown (Schuylkill Haven, PA/Schuylkill Haven HS), Jessica Foran (Annandale, NJ/Rutgers Prep HS), and Kate Harrison (Cold Spring Harbor, NY/Cold Spring Harbor HS) led the honorees for the women’s basketball team.  The Greyhounds ended its 25-3 season in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament, losing to Utica (NY) College, which was the ninth straight appearance for Moravian in the postseason.  Moravian also completed a perfect 14-0 Landmark Conference record, won the 2010 Landmark Conference Championship and ended out the season being ranked 22nd in the final D3Hoops.com Top 25 Poll.  Also making the academic honor roll are senior guard Alyson Steltz (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus HS), junior guards Jennie Miller (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg HS) and Emily Smith (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South HS), sophomore forward Alexandra Blair (Hellertown, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS), and sophomore guard Cassandra Phillips (Orwigsburg, PA/Nativity BVM HS).

Making the 2010 Winter Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll from the men’s basketball team were senior forward Eric Weaver (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury HS), senior forward Mike Zubia (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS), junior forward Christopher Cullen (East Islip, NY/East Islip HS) and junior guard Ryan O’Donnell (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury HS).
