THREE GREYHOUNDS, MORAVIAN TEAM RANKED IN NCAA DIVISION III WOMEN’S BASKETBALL STATISTICS

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- Three players on the Moravian College women’s basketball team are ranked in the second NCAA Division III statistics release of the 2009-10 season including games through January 3rd, and the Greyhounds are ranked in the top 50 of 424 teams in six categories.

Senior forward Kirsty Stearns (East Norwich, NY/Oyster Bay HS) is 61st in the nation in free throw percentage at 85.2 percent, having made 46 of 54 free throw attempts this season.  Stearns, pictured at right, is also tied for 72nd in field goal percentage at 51.9 percent, having made 55 of 106 field goal attempts.

Sophomore forward Alexandra Blair (Hellertown, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS), pictured at left, is 52nd in the nation in blocked shots at 1.9 with 21 blocked shots in 11 games.

Senior guard Katie Harrison (Cold Spring Harbor, NY/Cold Spring Harbor HS) is tied for 100th in assist-turnover ratio this season.  Harrison, pictured at bottom right, has committed just 27 turnovers in 11 games this winter while dishing out 36 assists.

Moravian, which led the nation in free throw percentage last season, is currently 12th from the foul line at 76.0 percent (200-for-263).  The Greyhounds are also 14th in blocked shots per game at 5.5, 18th in scoring offense at 75.3 pointers per game, 39th in field goal percentage defense at 33.7 percent, 44th in turnover margin at 5.36, and tied for 40th in winning percentage at 81.8 percent.

The Greyhounds, who are now 9-2 overall and 1-0 in Landmark Conference action, will return to the court on Friday, January 8th in a Landmark Conference game at The United States Merchant Marine Academy tipping off at 5:30 p.m..  Moravian is currently ranked 18th in the nation in the D3hoops.com Top 25 polls, and the Greyhounds are ranked 22nd in the USA Today/ESPN Division III Coaches.
