MORAVIAN’S KIRSTY STEARNS HONORED AS LANDMARK CONFERENCE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

MADISON, NJ --- Senior forward Kirsty Stearns (East Norwich, NY/Oyster Bay HS) of the Moravian College women’s basketball team has been named the Landmark Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for her performance last week.

Stearns helped ninth-ranked Moravian to a 3-0 record in the final week of the regular season as the Greyhounds finished the Landmark Conference season 14-0 and earned the top seed in the 2010 Landmark Conference Tournament while running the team's winning streak to 18 games, the third longest in school history.  Stearns averaged a double-double at 12.0 points and 10.3 rebounds per game last week.  For the week, Stearns was 16-for-27 from the floor (59.3 percent) and a perfect four-for-four at the foul line.  She averaged just under 25 minutes per game and finished the week with 12 blocked shots, eight steals and five assists while committing just six fouls and six turnovers.

Stearns began the week with 14 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots in a 71-58 win at Goucher College.  She then had ten points, ten rebounds, three assists and three steals in an 82-63 victory at The Catholic University of America.  Stearns finished the week with another double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds while tying her career high with six blocked shots in a 77-60 win over 13th-ranked The University of Scranton. 

The Greyhounds, who are now 23-2 overall, will return to the court on Wednesday, February 24th in a Landmark Conference semifinal game versus Susquehanna University tipping off at 7:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall.

Moravian is currently ranked ninth in the nation in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, and the Greyhounds are tied for tenth in the USA Today/ESPN Division III Coaches.
