MORAVIAN WOMEN’S SOCCER SQUAD SELECTED FOURTH IN 2010 LANDMARK CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL

MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian College women’s soccer team has been picked fourth in the 2010 Landmark Conference season in a preseason poll selected by the conference’s head coaches and sports information directors.

Defending champion The Catholic University of America was selected first in the poll with 69 points while The University of Scranton was second with 64 points. Drew University finished third in the preseason voting with 48 points while the Greyhounds collected 40 points to place fourth, just a point ahead of Susquehanna University.  Rounding out the poll were Juniata College with 21 points in sixth place and Goucher College in seventh with 13 points.

Expectations are high again this season for Moravian with the 2010 squad returning 15 letterwinners and eight starters from last year’s 8-8-2 team. Last season, the Greyhounds reached the quarterfinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference South Championship Tournament.

First-year head coach Brienne Smith has a strong returning corps of players in her debut season. The team returned to campus for its preseason camp on Wednesday, August 18th.

Moravian will open its 2010 season on Wednesday, September 1st versus Lebanon Valley College on the Hub Quad at 4:00 p.m. The Greyhounds begin the Landmark Conference regular season contest on Saturday, September 25th when the Greyhounds travel to Drew.
