THREE GREYHOUNDS NAMED ITA SCHOLAR-ATHLETES

SKILLMAN, NJ --- The 2009-10 Moravian College women’s tennis team has been named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team for the ninth consecutive year.

Three of the Greyhounds’ individual players, junior Elizabeth Endy (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin HS) and sophomores Jami Fein (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon HS) and Anna Meola (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland HS) earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors for maintaining at least a 3.50 GPA, earning a varsity letter and being enrolled for at least two semesters.  A total of 1,872 student-athletes were honored.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale).  All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA/NAIA eligibility form and have competed in one or more matches are averaged into the cumulative grade point average for the current year (including fall 2009 and spring 2010).

A total of 299 men’s and women’s teams from NCAA schools earned the ITA All-Academic Award, while 19 men’s and women’s programs from NAIA schools were honored with the largest number, 75 programs, coming from the NCAA Division III women’s programs.

Moravian was one of 75 NCAA Division III women’s teams to win the ITA All-Academic Team award and the only Landmark Conference women’s team honored.  The University of Scranton men’s squad also earned the honor.

Fein, pictured at right, was the 2009 & 2010 Landmark Conference Player and 2009 Rookie of the Year while being on the All-Conference First Team in singles and doubles. Meola, who was on the Landmark All-Conference First Team in doubles and Second Team in singles, posted a 17-3 singles mark for the Greyhounds this season that included a 10-0 record when playing fifth singles.  She was also 12-4 at second doubles.  Meola, pictured at left, is 24-5 in singles action during her career.

Endy, pictured at bottom right, was 5-6 in doubles action and posted a 4-7 singles slate last season.

Moravian begins its 2010-11 season on Saturday, September 4th as the Greyhounds travel to a four-team invitational at Ramapo College of New Jersey with Bryn Mawr College and Gwynedd-Mercy College.
