THREE MORAVIAN FOOTBALL PLAYERS RANKED IN NCAA DIVISION III STATISTICS

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- Three members of the Moravian College football team are ranked in the sixth NCAA Division III statistical rankings of 2010 through games of October 10th, and the Greyhounds are ranked in the top 50 in two team categories.

Senior wide receiver Alex Hersch (Macungie, PA/Emmaus HS) is 82nd in the country in punt returns, averaging 7.31 yards per return.  Hersch, pictured at right, has returned 16 punts for 117 yards this season with a long return of 23 yards at McDaniel College.

Junior kicker Ian Heck (Easton, PA/Easton HS) is tied for 86th in the country in field goals per game at 0.67.  Heck, pictured at left, is four-for-seven on field goal attempts this season with a career long of 41 yards versus Johns Hopkins University.  All three of Heck’s misses this season are from longer than 43 yards.

Senior wide receiver Shawn Sylvainus (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth HS) is tied for 92nd in receiving yards per game at 75.50.  Sylvainus, pictured at right, has caught 24 passes for 453 yards and one touchdown in six games this fall.  He has moved into seventh in school in yardage at 1,548 and receptions with 98.

Moravian is 42nd in the nation in pass efficiency defense at a 100.28 rating and 42nd in passing defense at 157.17 yards per contest.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday, October 16th in a Centennial Conference game versus Franklin & Marshall College.  Kickoff is slated for 1:05 p.m. at Rocco Calvo Field in Bethlehem with the game being broadcast live by TV-2 Sports.
