MORAVIAN’S PETROS NAMED CENTENNIAL CONFERENCE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK;
JOHNSON & HECK NAMED TO WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

LANCASTER, PA --- Senior defensive lineman Allen Petros (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) of the Moravian College football team has been named to Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week while sophomore quarterback Matt Johnson (Macungie, PA/Emmaus HS) and junior kicker Ian Heck (Easton, PA/Easton HS) were named to the Weekly Honor Roll for their performances in Moravian’s 24-17 win versus Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday.

Petros, pictured at right, led Moravian with two and a half sacks in the victory.  He had a total of five tackles in the game to go with a pass break-up.  With his tackles for loss, Petros has moved into second in school history with 34 and a half tackles for loss in just three seasons.  Moravian has just six sacks this season, all in the last three games, and Petros has recorded three and a half of those sacks.

Johnson, pictured at left, improved to 2-1 since moving from starting safety to starting quarterback.  Johnson completed 12 of 22 passes for 145 yards, and he ran for 104 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries including a season long run of 59 yards.  Since moving to offense, Johnson is 36-73 for 589 yards with two touchdowns and an interception, and he has run for 229 yards and three touchdowns on just 38 carries.

Heck, pictured at bottom right, scored six of Moravian’s 24 points in the game.  Heck opened the scoring with a 23-yard field goal, and he was three-for-three on extra-points.  Heck averaged just 49 yards per kickoff on five attempts but two kickoffs as well as his field goal were directly into a steady 20 mph wind.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday, October 23rd in a Centennial Conference game at Juniata College kicking off at 1:00 p.m. in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.
