THREE MORAVIAN FOOTBALL PLAYERS RANKED IN NCAA DIVISION III STATISTICS

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- Three members of the Moravian College football team are ranked in the eighth NCAA Division III statistical rankings of 2010 through games of October 23rd, and the Greyhounds are ranked in the top 50 in three team categories.

Senior wide receiver Shawn Sylvainus (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth HS) is 67th in the nation in receiving yards per game with an average of 81.62.  Sylvainus, pictured at right, has caught 38 passes for 653 yards with one touchdown in eight games, and he has moved into fifth in school history with 112 receptions and third at 1,748 receiving yards.

Senior wide receiver Alex Hersch (Macungie, PA/Emmaus HS) is 68th in the country in punt returns, averaging 7.86 yards per return.  Hersch, pictured at left, has returned 21 punts for 165 yards this season with a long return of 25 yards versus Franklin & Marshall College on October 16th.

Junior kicker Ian Heck (Easton, PA/Easton HS) is tied for 95th in the country in field goals per game at 0.62.  Heck, pictured at bottom right, is five-for-eight on field goal attempts this season with a career long of 41 yards versus Johns Hopkins University.  All three of Heck’s misses this season are from longer than 43 yards.

Moravian is 32nd in the nation in total defense, allowing 268.25 yards per game, and the squad is 39th in pass defense at 155.75 yards per game and 39th in pass efficiency defense with a 98.95 rating.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday, October 30th in a Centennial Conference game versus nationally-ranked Ursinus College.  Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m. at Rocco Calvo Field in Bethlehem.
